A Trail Appears

Posted on January 5, 2023October 20, 2025

How could in all my plodding of these streets,
I never noticed its presence before?
And never knew that by keeping my feet,
I was walking past Sanctuary’s door?

But today, up there on the old town road,
I came upon a sign, don’t know how new.
It called me down a path I never toed,
And without Moment’s pause, away I flew.

Poetry Inspired by Nature

There’s a trail near me that I overlooked for years. I ran past its trailhead at least a dozen times before finally noticing it—and only because someone eventually installed a sign. Until then, the path remained hidden, obscured by the dark forest edging the road.

It’s a little sad that I needed a sign to give myself permission to explore, but I’m grateful someone took the time to point the way. I clearly needed a sign!

This poem is part of a growing collection over at In Verse, where I share nature-inspired poetry, reflections, and moments from the trail. If you enjoyed this piece, I hope you’ll check out more. Thanks for reading!
