Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

Discovering Surprises on Middle Sister

Posted on December 13, 2025December 14, 2025

Yesterday I got the chance to climb Middle Sister, one of New Hampshire’s 52 With a View mountains, on what turned out to be a cold and blustery day. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt the need to bring a face mask and goggles on a climb, and I was very glad I…

Hiking Works for Everybody

Posted on December 11, 2025December 11, 2025

My dog Bullet has been a little off lately. He’s got an ear infection and is acting all ornery again. Besides the infection, his current mood could also be due to the fact it’s been a little chilly outside and he’s missing most of his hair. At his once-a-year grooming appointment, the groomer absolutely butchered…

That One Perfect Thing

Posted on December 10, 2025December 11, 2025

I don’t want to die,
so I’m not going to die.
I’m not going to cave to the fear inside
that tells me
that pain—
that flutter—
is going to do me in tonight.

I’m not going to waste another second
worrying about
what might have been
or what could be.
I’m not staying here—
it’s time to let myself
be free.

And give up that
long dark drive,
believing I have a path to pave
that no one else
can understand.
Because I’ve run that route.
I’ve been that man.

A Mind Is Not Writ

Posted on December 8, 2025December 14, 2025

I’ve seen the bright become dim,
the dim become bright,
and those who were wrong,
one day get it right.

So when you ask me, why try?
Why bother at all?
Why waste your breath—
let the young men fall,

it lights a once broken nerve
idly spinning there,
ready to ignite,
bolstered by the dare.
