Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

the eighties are gone
the nineties are gone
what are we so afraid of?

we try so hard to box out
what now is, from what was
hoping rhetoric can change reality

hoping lakes still freeze like they used to
hoping fires don’t burn more than they did
wishing away the rising heat

and rising, a zoo of millions
singing songs of joy or lament
some ugly, some apoplectic, some hurt

some believing a new day has dawned
some believing the end is nigh
all missing each other in the subtext

A buddy and I spent Veterans Day making a loop hike of Kiasticuticus Peak (aka Bald Rock), Mount Monadnock, and Monte Rosa. It took us a little over four hours, maybe four and a half, thanks in large part to the blustery conditions at the summit of Monadnock. As we neared it, several people who…

It’s Never Enough

I’d take a thousand years of it and a thousand more, if only to get one more slice of that round fruit where eyes melt into one beating heart, and a second sun rises from deep within. What magic is there in all the Universe that is greater than that? You want an arm? Take it….

Through the Portal on Kidder Mountain

Posted on November 10, 2025November 10, 2025

For the second year in a row, I picked up a virus on Halloween, making it hard for me to do anything but rest for most of last week. But on Friday, I started turning the corner a bit, and while I didn’t have the energy to pursue a big climb, after a week of…
