Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

Mount Pierce: My Favorite 4000-Footer

Posted on September 25, 2025September 26, 2025

At least I think it is. Let’s just say I’ve always had great luck on Pierce. And I’m not just saying that because it’s named after the only U.S. President to come from New Hampshire. Nope. I’m saying it because the trail up always runs well for me, and I’ve always had incredible views from…

Too Many Pine Hills—Let’s Fix That

Posted on September 25, 2025September 25, 2025

When it comes to New Hampshire’s mountains, I keep running into one odd problem: there are so many mountains with the same name. For example, yesterday I climbed Whiteface Mountain, which sits to the west of Lake Winnipesaukee, so I could close out the Belknap 12 peak list. But you know what’s just across the…

The Greatest Sport Nobody Talks About

Posted on September 24, 2025September 24, 2025

I never knew much about cross-country running before last year. I always thought it was just something kids did when they didn’t want to play another sport. Or for people who really loved running. But after watching several of my son’s high school meets these last couple of years, I have a newfound appreciation for…
