Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

Escape?

Posted on September 17, 2025September 17, 2025

You’ve tried so hard
to escape the duty.
And the pain.
To hide where you can manage refrain.

You’ve run it out.
You’ve screamed at it, punched,
even turned and fled.
All swallowed up inside your head.

And after so many hours,
so many years,
what did you solve
beyond your own resolve?

The Race That Never Was

In the Woods

Posted on September 15, 2025September 15, 2025

In the woods I see things
that others cannot see,
beyond the ferns and sycamores,
and places dreamt to be.

It can take a minute
for it all to come clear,
but gradually the visions
remind you why you’re here.

And what, you may ask,
is it that I can discern?
If only I could give you…

The Webster-Jackson Loop

Posted on September 14, 2025December 14, 2025

I made it back to a 4000-footer Friday! And if memory serves, it’s the first time I’ve climbed one alone since writing 4000s by 40. I’ve returned to the 4000-footers often since publishing, but always with friends or family. It was a funny feeling being back for a solo run—it really reconnected me with the…
