Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!
Georgiana Falls

On Georgiana Falls

Posted on December 15, 2024October 21, 2025

This morning I went, I thought somewhere new,
hunting a waterfall, gifting a view,
but when I arrived and opened the door
I knew I’d already been there before.

How could I have forgotten such a place?
What spot in my mind needed it erased?
Or was it because in the years before,
my mind had lost some power to record?

New Trails and a Happy Return to Winter Hiking

Posted on December 14, 2024June 6, 2025

It’s been a while since I needed to don spikes. I’m not sure exactly how long, but it feels like years. Well, for hiking anyway. Sometimes I’ve needed them to tread up a ski hill to watch my daughter race, but other than that, I haven’t had much cause. A series of health setbacks kept…

Star Lake Mount Madison

Way Up There

Way up there, saddled in the breeze,
nestled where most will never see,
lies a lake, a christening pool,
a gift from Heaven, seems to me.

To protect it, we leave it be,
but I confess, a part believes,
that one little dip in this jewel
could turn an old soul new,
and set a new one free.

Rose Mountain New Hampshire

Those Summer Days of Autumn

In heart, we didn’t know,
but she knew.
With a sun like that, how
could we know?
Nothing ever happened
to give us
that creeping in our bones.
That cold show.

But she knew to shed all
and prepare.
That the body’s rhythm
isn’t cast
aside by a warm surprise,
and that for
every exuberance,
a right,
and the hard sleep that is
required.
