So, the long climb is over: my first book, 4000s by 40, is out! I’ve been quietly letting people know this week, taking my time before announcing it to a larger audience, being mindful of my purpose for writing it. I decided months ago that when I released it, I wanted to step into this…

On That Day
There may come a day, no,
there will come a day,
when you overcome
something so unbelievable
that you wouldn’t believe it yourself
had it not happened to you.
In time, you might not believe it either.
But on that day,
and all the days that follow,
your job is not to explain
what you overcame,
in hopes that someone
will one day understand.
That’s not why gifts are given.
The Reasons
It’s not for the fantasy
that at the table of martyrs,
someone will acknowledge,
that I had it harder.
It’s not for the telling,
not for the proof.
Not for the hope someone gets it
when I’m through.
It’s not for the showing,
not for the win.
Not for the knowing
I was right in the end.
When the Mountain Says No
When the mountain says no,
today is not your turn,
how do you respond?
Do you bow your head
and turn for another day,
or keep pressing on?
Perhaps you’ve been lucky
to acquire belief
that you can always ascend.
Or, maybe, luckier still,
you’ve fallen at times,
and nodding, descend.
