Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

Good News for the February Book Slump

Posted on February 18, 2026February 18, 2026

So, I learned something this week. Book sales, it would seem, reach their low point in the marketplace during two months in particular—July, when people are spending more time outdoors and enjoying their summer vacation—and in February, when people are hungover from the holiday season. Rediscovering Old Ground: Mount Pemigewasset

Posted on February 17, 2026February 17, 2026

Most of my climbing these days is hard to plan out in advance. Such is life with work and kids. So, when a day suddenly pops up where there is time to climb, it comes together pretty fast. I find out if any of my peeps are around, and I go. If friends are available,…

Finding the Flow

Posted on February 16, 2026February 16, 2026

Last week, finally, I was able to wake up and start the day with writing for my current book. Usually, I need to write a blog entry or write some journal notes first in order to get the juices flowing, but last week I was able to break through the routine and deviate when it…

Ballast for the Starlight

Posted on February 13, 2026February 16, 2026

Sometimes,
when I am out on the trail,
pushing,
for no reason other than to see,
it feels like I’m not even the one
making the steps.

Like I am somewhere else
and my body
is under the control of some strange force.
I watch
as this vessel takes me somewhere
that has no meaning to me yet.

Why is my body doing this?
Why bother?
Why go up the mountain and why come back?
Where is this all going?
When do the steps end?
Who makes that decision?
