The Artist
Eighty years he lived,
a man of principle. Of responsibility.
Waiting for the day,
when he’d finally be free.
After all lines were crossed—
the job, the mortgage, the house,
the kids to adulthood
with the spirit he espoused.
But there was always another thing.
Another step in the way.
Another phase that kept him
from what he wanted to say.
The Right Light
Can you see it over there?
Through the evergreen
and billowed birch,
past the branches
where nuthatches perch?
It’s there if you look.
A thread.
A casting of spirit.
An embodiment that grows,
the closer you draw near it.
Do you see it shimmering through?
One heavenly spot,
where all that you wished,
comes sliding together
