There’s Bears Out Dere!

Posted on August 19, 2025August 19, 2025

On last week’s backcountry trip to Sawyer Pond, we received a lot of warnings about how it has been a very active summer season for the local bear population. Some were even going as far as to call it a “Bear Summer.” That got me thinking… Seeking Bear Repellent Before heading into the backcountry, I…

Back to the Backcountry! An Overnight at Sawyer Pond

Posted on August 18, 2025August 18, 2025

Our Place in the Woods

Posted on August 6, 2025August 12, 2025

We need this, don’t we?
This place only we
seem to know about.

Where we can quickly
find some peace
whenever we go out.

A path with no cause
to make us worry
about who we might see.

With no care for
where we are going
or how we need to be.

Round Pond

Posted on July 27, 2025July 28, 2025

Blackflies swarmed about my head,
deerflies attacked my gait,
and somewhere in the tallgrass
ticks lied about in wait.

Fauna and fern crowded in,
pushing ivy about the path,
and when a bundle brushed my leg,
I feared it might bring nature’s wrath.

It was the kind of day that feels
like a sweltering city night
when the AC’s freon blows out
and sweat begins to blur your sight.
