Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

The Reluctant

Posted on November 19, 2025November 19, 2025

Of all the people, in all the world,
how did you come to pick me?
Why do I deserve
these special maladies?

Where did I go wrong?
How can I take it back?
Is there something I could do to make up
for what I lack?

Because it’s too much—
these illnesses, these defeats.
Why, God, oh why
did you give them all to me?

A National Service Solution to the College Tuition Crisis

Posted on November 17, 2025November 17, 2025

I’ve got two kids going off to college next year, and it’s sparked a lot of conversation lately with other parents about the ridiculous cost of sending kids off to a place where most of what they learn is how to party with their peers. It was getting exorbitant in the 1990s, when tuition breached…

Bring Out the Imp (and Middle Carter)

Posted on November 16, 2025November 18, 2025

Winter has come to the White Mountains. After climbing the Imp Face and Middle Carter on Friday, it feels strange because it’s still clearly autumn at home. It’s as if I dipped myself in another world for a moment and am now home with the memories of a strange, magical trip. Not many hikers out…
