Author: Matt Larson

With my first book, 4000s by 40, released this fall, I am fulfilling a lifelong dream of writing, and am excited to continue the journey of storytelling with future projects—so much so that the day after I published 4000s by 40, I began my next work. Much of my inspiration comes from nature. My early love for the ocean, found on the South Shore of Massachusetts, has transitioned into a deep passion for the mountains here in New Hampshire, and I wanted to share that with my first book. If you’d like to connect or have any inquiries, you can reach out to me at [email protected]. I’m also on Instagram and Facebook at wanderingmatt8. Happy reading!

Chuck’s Bat

Funny I hadn’t thought of you lately, for it hasn’t been long and I’ve lost so few. I guess that’s what happens when new losses, like dominoes, knock down the thieving moments of our pasts and leave our memories with the aptitude to serve only one reflection at a time. But then you were there, playing…

Warmer Winters

Posted on January 4, 2023January 7, 2026

You’ve noticed it, haven’t you?
The lakes that no longer freeze?
The January rains?
Has it caused your mind to flinch
and consider
the possibility of different climates?
Of warmer winters?

It’s hard to discard this sensation
as a seasonal whim,
and perhaps doing so would be of stoic
but cowardly design.
For if I can ignore it and let it pass,
absently upon my mind,
then should I not expect to pass
absently upon the earth?

Indomitable Faith

Posted on January 3, 2023October 20, 2025

It doesn’t come from the good times,
victories or rewards,
or from answered prayers submitted
by genuine appeal.

It’s not found in the lofty goals
you are running towards,
or when the inconceivable
comes calling you to kneel.

Blue River Evening

The Evening Blue

Posted on December 30, 2022October 20, 2025

The river pours and fjords its way,
bursting over seams in the glade,
calling bramble and brash to play
before exhaling in cascade.

Where it cannot push, it dances,
when it cannot burrow, it leaps.
Determinedly, it advances
as it descends the mountain steep.
